Air Source Heat Pump FAQs for Macclesfield

Do I need to keep the heating on all the time?

Usually, yes, or at least for longer than you’re used to. A heat pump works best keeping the house at a steady temperature. A boiler heats it up quickly twice a day; a heat pump doesn’t work that way. Running it steadily is normally cheaper too. We set the controls up before we leave and show you how to use them.

Are heat pumps noisy?

They’re quieter than most people expect. You’ll usually hear a low hum when the unit is working hard in cold weather, and very little the rest of the time. Before we install, we do the MCS noise calculation at your neighbour’s nearest window. The unit has to pass it to go in without planning permission.

What servicing does a heat pump need?

We recommend a service once a year. We check the refrigerant circuit, the system pressure and the filters, clean the outdoor unit and make sure the controls are set up properly. Most manufacturers need a yearly service to keep the warranty valid.

How long does installation usually take?
