Powerwall stores electricity that is produced and generated by solar panels during the day and makes it available to your home in the evening when energy consumption levels are high.
Battery power is able to provide a link between high solar production and peak demand, allowing you to use your solar panel system more effectively and efficiently, reducing your energy and electricity costs at home and during the early mornings, late afternoons and evenings in the workplace.
A fuel cell uses natural gas from the grid to generate electricity within your own building and significantly reduce the amount you need to buy from conventional electricity suppliers.
It is much more efficient at generating and delivering electricity than the grid. The gas it consumes to make electricity is significantly cheaper per unit than electricity purchased from the grid, which can reduce your bills and carbon emissions by up to 50%.
A fuel cell is a micro combined heat and power system (mCHP). It uses innovative fuel cell technology to separate natural gas into carbon and hydrogen using an electrochemical reaction that delivers clean, controllable, on-site electricity for residential as well as business use.
Producing up to 13,000 kWh of electricity per year, Fuel Cells are best used where annual electricity demand is greater than 10,000 kWh, whether in a single building or shared between multiple homes.
The high electrical efficiency also allows for Fuel Cells to operate throughout the year - regardless of the the weather or the season. It can produce up to 13,000 kWh that you can either use on-site or feed into the grid to receive compensation*.

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) are a refrigerant-based system and operate like your refrigerator at home. The system can absorb low-grade heat from the air, and raise its temperature efficiently to be suitable for space heating and/or hot water.
Both Mitsubishi’s Ecodan and Viessmann’s Vitocal 300 are air source heat pump systems that can provide water temperatures of up to 60°C (without backup electric heater) in ambient temperatures as low as -25°C*.
Every household has different heat demands and the conditions for installing a heat pump vary. The range of accessories for both the Mitsubishi Ecodan and Viessmann Vitocal 300-A are suitably flexible and comprehensive. Subject to demand, the heat pump can be supplied fully equipped. This means the heating circuit pump, expansion vessel and safety equipment have already been fully fitted. Even the modular electric instantaneous heater can be easily integrated.
Air Source Heat Pumps qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which is a government scheme which has been introduced to encourage renewable heat technologies amongst homes, communities and businesses throughout the UK.
Solar panel electricity systems, also known as Solar Photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun's energy using Photovoltaic cells. These cells don't need direct sunlight to work – they still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household and commercial appliances and lighting.
The benefits of Solar Photovoltaics (PV) include reducing your energy bills, you receive payments for electricity you generate (even if you use it) with the Government Feed-in-Tariff, you can sell any excess electricity back to the grid and the system cuts Carbon footprint as it doesn't release any harmful carbon dioxide.
The PV cells are usually made from layers of silicon and when the sun light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers. The power of PV cells that are mounted together in panels / modules are mounted on the roof and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
A Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) is a refrigerant-based system, like your refrigerator at home. The system can absorb low grade heat from the ground or water, and raise its temperature efficiently to be suitable for space heating and/or hot water.
Ecodan is a ground source heat pump system that is manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric that can provide water temperatures of up to 65ºC (without backup electric heater)
The Vitocal 300-G is a GSHP manufactured by Viessmann that proves its worth through excellent reliability, safety and particularly quiet operation, thanks, in part, to the hermetic seal and dual anti-vibration mounts. At the same time, the Compliant scroll compressor ensures the highest performance factors and flow temperatures up to 60 °C.
An advanced heating system should include innovative solar technology. To make use of solar energy to back up your heat pump, both Mitsubishi and Viessmann you systems that is a perfect match for the Ecodan and Vitocal 300-G.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units are compact energy generation units that provide a de-centralised supply of heat and power with a consumer focus at an overall efficiency of around 90%. CHP units are used to cover the heating base load and are complemented by peak load boilers.
An internal combustion engine is supplied with natural gas and combustion air from the installation room. The energy is then converted into mechanical energy by the engine.
The benefits of a CHP unit is that it operates with great environmental responsibility. It save energy of approx. 36% CO2 emissions and offers a tax efficient investment which provides a helpful cashflow boost and shortens the payback period.
A CHP unit can reduce the potential cost impact of carbon reduction commitment legislation in the future as it has a high operational reliability with short servicing times which means the user has reduced costs.

Financial incentive's can be introduced against projects and are payable over 7 or 20 years for certain Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for domestic and commercial measures respectively. RHI is linked to retail price index and enable customers to save energy costs by generating their own electricity and selling any excess back to their energy provider.
THE UK government has announced new laws that will ensure households and businesses with small-scale renewable technologies, are paid for exporting their excess electricity to the grid.
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), builds on the government’s previous subsidy scheme, the Feed-in Tariff (FiT), which supported the installation of 850,000 renewable projects. The FiT closed to new entrants in April this year.
Under this Smart Export Guarantee, energy suppliers will be required to offer a payment for the electricity households with solar PV panels, and other small-scale renewable electricity generators, export to the grid.
The legislation puts a legal obligation on energy suppliers with over 150,000 customers to introduce export tariffs by 1st January 2020. MCS certification (or equivalent) will be a requirement to qualify for the SEG, helping to safeguard high standards in the industry.
MCS is an industry-led and nationally recognised quality assurance scheme. Working with industry to define, maintain and improve quality, MCS allows for the certification of products and installers so that people can have confidence in the low-carbon technology they invest in.
Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS said: “The introduction of the SEG, with a clear obligation to be MCS certified, will act as a conduit for a more robust low carbon marketplace. This will contribute to the growth of quality assured installations, by guaranteeing payment for those homes that generate excess electricity. We have a clear obligation to protect consumers and support our members. MCS certification allows Installers to evidence their compliance to the sector’s quality standard.”
Energy and Clean Growth Minister Chris Skidmore, said: “The future of energy is local and the new smart export guarantee will ensure households that choose to become green energy generators will be guaranteed a payment for electricity supplied to the grid.”
The design of the tariff is down to individual suppliers which BEIS says is to allow for innovation and quick implementation. The likes of Octopus and Bulb are already offering an export tariff to their customers. It is expected that over time tariffs will become increasingly smart.
